Towing safety is incredibly important. Tow your travel trailer incorrectly or without caution and you, your vehicle, and your RV could all be at risk. For tips on how to ensure your safety while hauling your travel trailer behind you, check out our helpful tips below.
Check Your Tires
Before you hitch your travel trailer to your vehicle, be sure to give all of your tires a thorough inspection. An underfilled or leaking tire is likely to lead to skidding, difficulty towing and turning, and could even cause you to lose control of your vehicle—especially in inclement weather. Be sure your tires have plenty of tread as well, or your vehicle may struggle to successfully haul your travel trailer.
Balance Your Trailer
When towing a travel trailer, you need to be careful not to throw all of your luggage in one spot, or pile heavy items together in one place. This could easily unbalance your trailer, leading to dangerous swaying or the model tipping over after a hard turn. Do your best to spread your items evenly across your trailer and consider investing in some helpful sway bars to prevent swaying and ensure your trailer stays safely attached to your vehicle at all times.
